TOP BRITISH PAINTER Sacha Jafri PAINTS OFFICIAL ASHES WINNING VICTORY
PAINTING AT NATWEST PCA AWARDS AND RAISES 35,000 POUNDS
Imagine owning the handprint from those hands that bowled, batted,
caught, wicket kept and stumped their way to the Ashes Victory.
Sacha Jafri created just that last night at the Natwest PCA awards
at the Royal Albert Hall. Creating the official Victory Painting
around the handprints and signatures of the winning team, Sacha
produced a piece of historic sporting memorabilia to commemorate
a win that will be remembered for generations.
The England team, including Player-Of-The-Year Freddie Flintoff,
all entered into the spirit of things getting their hands dirty
once again in the name of cricket and placing their hands first
in paint and, under Sacha’s instruction, then positioning
them on his canvas.
Painting in the dressing room with live links to the 5,000 strong
audience having dinner, Sacha had only four hours to complete the
masterpiece. At 9:30pm the colourful masterpiece was brought out
on to the stage as the final and star auction prize. The bidding
was fast and furious for those keen to get their hands on such a
unique piece and was eventually sold by auctioneer John Gould for
35,000 pounds and saw Sacha as the highest contributor to the auction.
This adds to Sacha’s impressive tally who has raised over
1.4million pounds for charity in the past 5 years.
